How to get started with TrackLeadSource
A form enquiry tells you what the visitor wrote. It does not tell you whether they came from a Google ad, a newsletter or a search result.
TrackLeadSource saves where each visitor came from and hands it to your form when they send an enquiry. You add one snippet to your website and five hidden fields to your form. Each enquiry then arrives with its source, medium and campaign, the sources the visitor came from in order, and the pages they viewed.
Create your account and add your website
- Go to trackleadsource.com and click Start free trial, choose a plan and add a card at checkout. The trial lasts 14 days, you pay nothing today and you can cancel before it ends.
- In your dashboard, click Add website.
- Enter your Website name and Website domain, then save.
Install the snippet
- Sign in to your TrackLeadSource dashboard and open Websites, then your website.
- Go to the Installation tab and copy the snippet.
- Paste it before the closing
</head>tag on every page, including the page with your form.
<script async src="https://app.trackleadsource.com/tls.js" data-site-id="tls_your_site_id"></script>
Add the hidden fields
Add five hidden fields to every form you want to track. Name them exactly like this:
| Field | What it holds |
|---|---|
tls_source | Source of the last recorded visit |
tls_medium | Medium of that visit |
tls_campaign | Campaign of that visit |
tls_channel_path | Sources the visitor came from, in order |
tls_page_path | Pages the visitor viewed, in order |
The snippet fills them when the page loads. Each form builder adds hidden fields in its own way, so follow the guide for yours:
Connect the fields to your CRM
If enquiries go to a CRM or spreadsheet through a tool such as Make or Zapier, map the five fields there too. Once your sales results are in the same place, you can see which channels bring leads and which bring customers.
Send a test enquiry
- Add the bold part to the end of your website address and open it:
example.com/?utm_source=test&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=autumn - Click through to the page with your form and submit it.
- Open the enquiry and check that the source is
test, the medium iscpcand the campaign isautumn.
If every field says TrackLeadSource inactive, the site ID in the snippet is wrong or the domain of the page does not match the website in your dashboard.
