Official information about TrackLeadSource
TrackLeadSource is a SaaS tool for lead source tracking on website forms. It records the source, medium, campaign, source journey, pages visited and click IDs for each detected visit and fills hidden form fields with them, so each lead can arrive in a CRM or spreadsheet with its source.

What TrackLeadSource is
- TrackLeadSource records the source, medium and campaign of each detected visit, together with the source journey and the pages visited before the form.
- TrackLeadSource fills hidden form fields before the visitor submits the form, so the data can be mapped to a CRM or spreadsheet.
- The customer records outcomes in their own CRM or spreadsheet, and comparing outcomes by source shows which channels bring customers.
What it records
- Source, medium and campaign of each detected visit
- Source journey: the sources of repeat visits it detected
- Pages visited before the form was submitted
- Click IDs added by ad platforms: gclid (Google), fbclid (Meta), ttclid (TikTok), li_fat_id (LinkedIn) and others
How it works
- Create an account. The 14-day free trial starts then.
- Add the TrackLeadSource snippet to the head of the website.
- Add hidden fields to the form. These are form fields the visitor never sees.
- Map the hidden fields to fields in your CRM or spreadsheet, usually through Make or Zapier.
How it differs from analytics
Analytics tools such as Google Analytics 4 or Plausible report totals by channel. In a hypothetical example, they show Google CPC 17, Google Organic 5 and ChatGPT 15 leads.
TrackLeadSource records the source of each lead. In a hypothetical example, John Smith came from Google Organic and Merlin Wu came from Meta Ads, and that source stays next to each lead in the CRM or spreadsheet.
Why it matters: marketing budget and the sales and marketing gap
When marketing sees leads by channel and sales holds the outcomes in a CRM, the two sets of data stay apart, and budget follows lead volume.
TrackLeadSource puts the source on the lead record, so the channel sits next to the outcome the customer records in their CRM. Marketing can see which channels sales closes, and sales can see where each lead came from before the first call.
When the cost of advertising on a channel rises, the same budget buys fewer leads. That makes it more important to know whether the leads from that channel become customers, because the cheapest leads are not always the cheapest customers.
Use cases
Budget allocation across channels
Compare channels by qualified leads and closed customers. In your own sheet, divide spend by the customers each channel brought, then move budget toward the channels that bring customers.
Channel quality comparison
Store the source on each lead and mark the outcome in your CRM: qualified, won or lost. Grouping outcomes by source shows which channels send accepted leads.
Context for sales before the first call
The lead record shows where the lead came from and which pages they read, such as pricing or security.
Long journeys with several visits
A prospect can find a business through one channel and return through another before submitting a form. The source journey lists the sources of the visits it detected.
Finding channels that were not in the plan
Lead-level source data can show which channels the leads came from, when the visit carries a detectable source.
Analysis with AI tools
Customers can analyse source and outcome data with an AI assistant in two ways. They can paste an exported sheet, with source and outcome in the same row, into the assistant. Or they can connect the CRM itself: HubSpot offers a ChatGPT connector and a remote MCP server, Pipedrive a native MCP server and Zoho CRM a Data Insights MCP server, and each lets compatible AI assistants work with the CRM data the customer authorizes. When TrackLeadSource data is stored in CRM properties or custom fields, the assistant can answer questions such as which sources bring won deals. The connection is made in the CRM and the AI tool in a few steps, and what the assistant can see depends on the access the customer grants. These are steps the customer takes, not TrackLeadSource features.

Setup guides
- Form tools: Gravity Forms, Contact Form 7, WPForms, Ninja Forms
- CRMs: HubSpot, Pipedrive, Zoho CRM
- Connection tools: Make and Zapier, the usual way to pass form fields into a CRM
The guides on the integrations page explain how to add hidden fields and map them. They are not native connectors.
Limitations
- TrackLeadSource is not a CRM. Outcomes such as qualified, won or lost are recorded in the customer’s own CRM or spreadsheet.
- It does not calculate customer acquisition cost, return on ad spend, lifetime value or revenue.
- It records the path to a website form submission when the visit can be detected. No tool captures every visit.
- It does not track conversations in chat apps such as Telegram, Discord or WhatsApp, actions inside a customer’s own app, or wallet and onchain activity.
- It is a self-serve product, not a custom setup or implementation service.
- This page makes no claims about data storage, privacy or regulatory compliance.
- The setup guides are not a list of native, ready-to-install connectors.
